# How Long Do PMU Eyebrows Last? A Guide to Touch-Ups

Permanent makeup (PMU) brows create fuller, more defined-looking eyebrows without
the need to apply brow makeup every day. Results gradually soften over time, so
one of the most common questions clients ask is: how long do PMU eyebrows last?

For many clients, results remain visible for around 12 to 24 months. Longevity varies
with skin type, technique, lifestyle, sun exposure and aftercare. Touch-ups can
refresh the colour and definition when needed, but the right schedule depends on
how your brows heal and fade.

This guide explains what affects PMU brow longevity, what to expect during healing
and when to consider a maintenance appointment.

## What Are PMU Eyebrows?

PMU eyebrows are a cosmetic treatment in which a trained professional implants pigment
into the skin to enhance the brows’ shape, colour and definition. Depending on the
technique, the result may look like soft shading, fine hair strokes or a combination
of both.

Unlike a traditional body tattoo, brow PMU is designed to soften gradually. As the
pigment fades, a qualified artist can assess the existing shape and discuss whether
a refresh, correction or new procedure is appropriate.

## How Long Do PMU Brows Typically Last?

Many clients see visible results for approximately 12 to 24 months, although some
brows fade sooner and others remain visible longer. This is a general guide, not
a guarantee. Your artist can give you a more personalised estimate after assessing
your skin and existing pigment.

Over time, colour may become lighter and the original detail less defined. Visible
pigment does not automatically mean you need another treatment; the decision should
be based on the condition of your brows and your preferred look.

## Why Does PMU Pigment Fade?

The skin naturally renews itself, and the body gradually processes pigment particles.
Sun exposure and certain skincare treatments can also contribute to fading. Common
factors include:

 * Skin type and natural oil production
 * Sun exposure and inconsistent sun protection
 * Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other active skincare products near the brows
 * Swimming, heavy sweating and other lifestyle factors, particularly during healing
 * Technique, pigment choice, healing and individual skin response
 * How closely aftercare instructions are followed

Every client heals differently, so two people who receive the same treatment may
experience different fading patterns.

## Why Are Touch-Ups Important?

A touch-up can restore areas where pigment has faded unevenly and help maintain
the brows’ shape and balance. It is not always necessary to refresh every client
at the same interval. Your artist should assess the healed result before recommending
additional work.

The initial follow-up is commonly scheduled around six to eight weeks after the
first session, depending on the artist’s protocol and how the skin has healed. This
allows the artist to assess the healed colour and make any appropriate adjustments.

At a follow-up, your artist may refine small gaps, adjust colour where appropriate
or make minor improvements to symmetry. The goal is to work with the healed result,
not to add unnecessary pigment.

## When Should You Book a Maintenance Appointment?

After the initial follow-up, some clients consider maintenance around the 12-month
mark, while others can wait longer. Book an assessment when the colour has softened,
the shape looks less defined or the brows no longer suit your preferred appearance.

A maintenance session is not automatically needed every year. If substantial pigment
remains, adding more may be unnecessary. If the old pigment has changed colour,
blurred or become too dense, your artist may recommend a different plan rather than
a routine refresh.

## Does Skin Type Affect How Long PMU Brows Last?

Yes. Skin type can affect how crisp the detail appears and how quickly pigment softens.
Oily skin may lose fine detail sooner, while dry or normal skin may retain certain
styles more clearly. These are general tendencies, not fixed rules.

An experienced PMU artist considers your skin, natural brow hair, facial features
and desired finish when choosing an appropriate technique. Careful brow mapping
before treatment also helps plan a shape that complements your features.

## How Does Aftercare Affect Your Results?

Following your artist’s aftercare instructions supports proper healing. During the
healing period, avoid picking or scratching the area and follow the specific guidance
you receive about water, sweat, sun exposure, makeup and skincare products.

Once the skin has healed, sun protection and avoiding aggressive exfoliation directly
around the brows may help preserve the appearance of the pigment. Follow your practitioner’s
advice if you use retinoids, acids or other active products near the treated area.

## Why Professional Technique Matters

Technique, pigment selection and placement all influence how brows heal and age.
Pigment placed at an inappropriate depth can fade too quickly or soften and spread
over time. A thorough consultation and realistic expectations are therefore important
before treatment.

Choose a properly trained professional who explains the procedure, discusses your
skin and brow goals, follows hygiene standards and provides clear aftercare guidance.

## Can Lifestyle Affect PMU Brow Longevity?

Frequent sun exposure and certain skincare habits can contribute to faster fading.
During healing, strenuous exercise, swimming and excess moisture may also affect
the result if they conflict with your aftercare instructions. Once healed, protect
the skin from the sun and avoid unnecessary irritation around the treated area.

## What Are the Signs Your Brows May Need a Refresh?

You may want to book an assessment if you notice that:

 * The colour has become noticeably lighter or uneven.
 * The shape has lost some of its definition.
 * Small areas appear patchy after the brows have fully healed.
 * You need more makeup to achieve your preferred look.

These signs do not always mean more pigment is the best option. A professional assessment
can help determine whether a refresh, correction or no treatment is appropriate.

## Should You Wait Until All the Pigment Has Faded?

Not necessarily. You can have your brows assessed before the pigment disappears
completely. However, adding pigment too frequently can lead to an overly dense result,
so the condition of the existing work should guide the decision.

If the colour has shifted, the shape has blurred or significant pigment remains,
your artist may recommend a consultation before deciding on the next step.

## Enjoy Timeless Beauty With Well-Maintained Brows

PMU brows can offer a convenient way to enjoy fuller, more defined-looking eyebrows.
Many clients see visible results for around 12 to 24 months, but individual longevity
depends on skin type, technique, lifestyle and aftercare.

Give your brows time to heal, follow your aftercare instructions and schedule a
professional assessment when the colour or shape begins to soften. The best maintenance
plan is the one suited to your skin and the condition of your existing pigment.

At FAS Ageless Touch, our approach is centred on thoughtful enhancement and results
that complement your features. Enjoy timeless beauty with advice tailored to your
brows.

## Why Your Brows Look Messy After A Touch Up And How To Fix It

### Introduction

**You booked a touch up expecting your brows to look refreshed.
 Instead, they came
out darker, muddier, or just off. Sound familiar? This is one of the most common
complaints I hear from clients who come to me for corrections. And almost every
time, the root cause is the same the artist skipped the most important step. Here’s
what really goes wrong during a bad touch up, and exactly how it should be done.

## **Why Most Touch Ups Go Wrong**

When a PMU artist does a touch up, the temptation is to just pick up a color and
go straight over the existing brows.
It seems logical the brows are fading, so
just add more pigment, right?** Wrong.Over time, PMU pigment shifts. Brown can turn
grey. Warm tones can go cool. When you layer new pigment over a shifted color without
correcting it first, you get a muddy, deep, uneven and unpredictable result. The
brows look messy not because the artist used the wrong color, but because they skipped
important key pint including but not limited proper brow mapping an color correction
entirely.

## **The Shape Problem Nobody Talks About **

**Color isn’t the only issue.**
** Shape matters just as much.**With this client,
her brows had been done about a year before she came to me. She wanted a simple
touch up. But when I assessed her brows I noticed the shape wasn’t sitting correctly
on her face. The tails were too low, the arch wasn’t matching her bone structure,
and one brow was slightly higher than the other. She didn’t see it at first. Most
clients don’t you get used to looking at your brows every day.

So before I touched any pigment, I did a full assessment and mapping.
 I measured.
I marked. I showed her exactly where her brows should sit versus where they were.
That’s when she saw it.

![screenshot](https://fsagelesstouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_1699.jpg"

## Color Correction First

Once the shape was confirmed, the next step was correcting the existing color before
adding anything new.
This is where most artists go wrong. They skip this step entirely.
I used the **FAS Reset Corrector** a professional PMU pigment specifically designed
to neutralize unwanted color shifts in previously treated brows. It works by shifting
the underlying tone back toward a neutral base, so whatever color you add on top
heals predictably and evenly.Without this step, the new pigment fights with the
old shifted color underneath and the result is always too deep gray and muddy.

## Neutralizing and Highlighting

**After correction, the next step was neutralizing the inner brow area where there
was already heavy pigment buildup.**

When there is too much pigment concentration in one area, adding more on top creates
an unnatural solid block of color.
It looks tattooed, not like a brow. I used the**
FAS Camouflage Neutralizer** to soften and balance the heavy areas before proceeding.
This created a clean, even surface for the final color application.

![brows](https://fsagelesstouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_1696-1.jpg "Why
Your Brows Look Messy After A Touch Up And How To Fix It")

## Balancing With The Final Color

**Only after correction and neutralizing was complete did I apply the final color.**

I used **FAS Signature Brown** a premium brow pigment from the FAS Signature Collection,
formulated specifically for caramel to lighter skin tones. It delivered a rich,
balanced, natural-looking brown that complemented her skin tone perfectly.

Why Your Brows Look Messy After A Touch Up And How To Fix It")

## **The Final Result**

The procedure took longer than a standard touch up.
 It always does when correction
is involved. But the result speaks for itself.

## **What This Means For You As A Clien**t

If you’ve had a touch up that came out looking off, color correction was likely
skipped.

**Here’s what to look for when choosing an artist:**
Do they assess the existing
color before starting?

Do they do a full mapping even for a touch up?

Do they explain why correction may be needed?

Do they use professional correction pigments?

If the answer to any of these is no you’re at risk of a bad result.

## **What This Means For You As A PMU Artist**

**If your touch up results are coming out muddy, dark, or uneven this is why.**

Color correction before touch up is an advanced skill.
It requires understanding
how pigment shifts over time, how to neutralize undertones, and how to layer colors
without creating a deep gray or muddy mess.

If you want to master corrections our PMU training academy covers this in detail.

## Bad Brow Job? Here’s What To Do Immediately

You sat in that chair with excitement. You left with something that looked nothing
like what you asked for.
Maybe the shape is off. Maybe the color is wrong. Maybe
it’s uneven. Whatever the case — you have a bad brow job and you don’t know what
to do next.

Here’s the most important thing you need to know: **time is everything.**

## Why You Need To Act Fast

Most people make the mistake of going home, sleeping on it, and hoping it looks
better in the morning.
It won’t. And every day you wait makes the correction process
harder. Here’s why — your skin is constantly working to heal itself. As it heals,
it bonds with the pigment that was implanted. The longer you wait, the deeper that
bond gets. After 3 weeks, the pigment is fully locked into your skin and removal
becomes a much longer, more expensive process.

## What You Should Do In The First 72 Hours

If you had a bad brow job done today, yesterday, or within the last few days reach
out immediately.
Don’t wait. Don’t sleep on it.

#### PMU PIGMENT LIFT SOLUTION

is the most effective solution for fresh bad brow jobs.
 Here’s how it works:A specialized
Pmu pigment lift solution is applied to the treated areaIt disrupts the bonding
process between the pigment and your skinAs your skin heals and peels, the pigment
lifts out with itThe earlier it’s done, the more pigment can be removed in fewer
sessions The result? Your skin gets a clean slate — faster, easier, and at a lower
cost than if you had waited.

Job? Here's What To Do Immediately")

## What Happens If You⏎ Wait Too Long

If it’s been more than 3 weeks since your bad brow procedure,
 pmu pigment solution
lift becomes less effective.Which means a lot more sessions will be required desired
result. At that point, laser removal becomes the recommended option.Laser removal
works differently it works best on healed, settled pigment. So ironically, the older
the bad brow job, the better laser works on it.But laser removal requires multiple
sessions, more time, and more investment. That’s why acting early with pmu pigment
lift correction saves you time, money and years of walking around with bad brows.

## Why Dark Skin Needs Extra Attention With PMU Corrections

For melanin-rich skin, bad brow corrections are more delicate.
Darker skin has
a higher risk of hyperpigmentation if corrections are not handled properly. This
means you need a specialist who understands how darker skin reacts to pigment, pressure,
and the correction process. At FAS Ageless Touch, we specialize in PMU corrections
specifically for melanin-rich skin. Every correction is approached with precision
and care to protect your skin while delivering the best possible result.
